According to the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date at all times. Moreover, this information is publicly visible on WHOIS web sites and while this may be okay for firms, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since anybody can view their names and their personal postal and email addresses, all the more so in times when identity theft isn’t that uncommon. For this reason, domain registrars have introduced a service that conceals the details of their customers without editing them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. In case it’s active, people will see the details of the registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they perform a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it’s still impossible to hide your personal information with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Hosting

If you get a hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domains on the condition that their extensions support the service. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable Whois Privacy Protection during the registration procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any time later through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The process is surprisingly easy – once you log in, you will need to go to the Registered Domains section where you’ll notice a list of all the domains that you have registered with our company. For each one of them you’ll notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will show you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can disable the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you’d like to conceal the contact details for your domain and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you’ll be able to enable our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the account activation procedure or at any time afterwards via your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. This service is optional and can be enabled with a few clicks from the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel where all the domain names that you have registered with us will be displayed alphabetically. You can enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of the Top-Level Domain extensions that support this service by simply clicking on the “Whois Privacy Protection” sign next to each domain. In the exact same way, you can also renew the service or shut it off – in case you would like to transfer a domain to a different company and you need the real email address associated with the domain to be visible.
